Personal Care & Meals in Nairobi & Kiambu
Respectful help with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, meals and feeding — always at the person's own pace and with their privacy protected.
Needing help with washing, dressing or using the toilet can feel embarrassing, especially for proud parents who have always looked after others. Personal care done well is quiet, unhurried and respectful.
Dignity first
I always explain what I'm about to do, ask before helping, and let your loved one do as much as they can for themselves. Doors are closed, bodies are covered, and preferences — from a favourite lotion to how they like their hair — are respected.
Bathing, grooming and dressing
Help with a bath, shower or bed bath; brushing teeth or caring for dentures; hair care and shaving; skin care and moisturising; and choosing and putting on clothes. I keep an eye on the skin for redness or sore spots and tell the family early.
Continence and toileting
Help getting to the toilet safely, using a commode, changing adult diapers and keeping the skin clean and dry — handled calmly and discreetly.
Meals, feeding and drinking
I can prepare simple, nourishing meals that follow any diet from their doctor — soft foods, reduced salt or sugar — and help with feeding if needed, sitting upright, at a gentle pace. Many older people don't drink enough water, so I encourage fluids through the day and keep a simple note of what they've eaten if the family wants that.
